The Dutch Online Gambling Trade Organisation Speel Verantwoord has been the first to endorse the pan-European code of conduct provided by the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) for responsible publicity.
Through joining the project, Speel Verantwoord has contributed to the EGBA’s long-term goal of carrying out guidelines for advertising content on gambling in Europe.
The code sets dedicated guidelines for the responsible quality of all gambling ads, across all media platforms, and provides dedicated social media and minor security initiatives.
Speel Verantwoord managing director Peter-Paul de Goeij commented: “Although various European gambling policies still vary a great deal at the moment, the future of online gambling regulation lies in European cooperation and harmonisation in this respect is inevitable. This code is one of the first important steps in that direction.
“It is not surprising that European organisations are joining forces especially in the field of advertising. Advertising plays a vital role in channelling consumers towards the regulated, safe and responsible gambling offer – but it should be responsible. That’s why we’re pleased to support this safer gambling initiative which will promote responsible advertising and help protect Dutch consumers and minors in particular.”
Calling on its affiliated gambling firms to support the advertisement code, Speel Verantwoord expects the pan-European code to educate and reinforce the existing online gambling laws in effect in the Netherlands at present.
