Portuguese gambling regulator Serviço de Regulação Inspeção de Jogos (SRIJ) has granted Bidluck SA a gaming licence, allowing the operation of online slots through its Bidluck.pt platform.
This is the 23rd gaming licence given in the state, where casino, poker, lottery, sports betting, and bingo are regulated on land and online. The licence will be valid from the date of its issuance, May 22, 2020, for 3 years.
Portugal’s igaming sector reported its highest ever quarterly sales in the first quarter of 2020, with online operators accounting for a total of €69.8 million , up 47 percent year on year.
In the midst of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) novel pandemic, April saw the nation’s parliament pass a bill calling for “partial or total limitations on access to online gambling platforms,” although specifics of the limits were not specified at the time.
This year the SRIJ issued several licences including two in February to Betway.
Nonetheless, in 2019, the jurisdiction’s gaming data revealed that unlicensed players had continued to flourish there, a full 3 years after regulated online gaming was implemented.
