BGC Declares Safer Gambling Week “Huge Success”

The Betting and Gaming Council have declared Safer Gambling Week 2021 as a “huge success” after a huge increase in engagement surrounding the event from the previous year’s efforts.

In total, the data revealed that the term and event generated more than 25 million social media impressions, which represents a 19% increase from the same week in 2020. Those numbers came specifically from impressions associated with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Additionally, the impressions received from Safer Gambling Week’s own brands took an even more dramatic increase, taking a 75% spike from 2020 as they received a hugely impressive 1.4 million impressions.

Safer Gambling Week originally started in 2017, with it initially being called Responsible Gambling Week before changing its name to its current one for the 2020 edition of the campaign.

They have also changed the slogan of the event from “when the fun stops, stop” to “take time to think”. This will now be used to promote the campaign and used as part of future advertising campaigns led by the Betting and Gaming Council.

Michael Dugher, chief executive of the Betting and Gaming Council, says Safer Gambling Week is now an “established annual event” on the calendar and is continuing to promote responsible gambling.

“It’s great news that this year’s Safer Gambling Week was such a huge success,” Dugher said.

“It is now an established annual event creating a national conversation on the importance of safer gambling, the tools that are available and the help that’s out there.

Dugher added that the industry will continue to promote safer gambling throughout the year.

“Once again, this shows the regulated betting and gaming industry’s commitment to continuing to raise standards,” he said.

“But our commitment to safer gambling is not just for one week of the year. Safer gambling is our mission for every week of the year.

“Millions of people enjoy a bet safely and responsibly, and the fall in problem gambling rates suggests that the work we have done at the BGC to promote safer gambling is starting to have an impact. But we are not complacent and will continue our efforts to raise standards even higher.”
