Betway Returns To Tennis After Netting Mercedes Cup Sponsorship

Betway has announced that it will be the official betting partner of the Mercedes Cup, an ATP250 tournament, as part of its return to sponsoring pro-tennis events.

The Mercedes Cup, held at the prestigious Club Weissenhof in Stuttgart, Germany (8-13 June), is one of the ATP Tour’s main grass-court tournaments in the run-up to Wimbledon’s Grand Slam event. Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem, and Roger Federer are among the previous winners.

The ATP Tour declared at the start of the 2021 season that it had ‘partially lifted’ its restriction on sports betting agreements, enabling regulated bookmakers to sponsor its registered ATP 250/500 tournaments.

Expanded tennis sponsorship portfolio

Betway, a previous Davis Cup sponsor, has expanded its tennis sponsorship portfolio with new deals with Mutua Madrid, the Miami Open, and the Estoril Portugal Open on the ATP tour.

Following a review of the ATP Tour’s commercial arrangements by the Tennis Integrity Unit, the sponsorship restriction was lifted (TIU).

Despite the respite, bookmaker sponsorships for the ATP Masters series and the Grand Slam tennis competitions of the Australian Open, French Open (Roland Garros), Wimbledon, and the US Open are still prohibited.

Betway’s CEO, Anthony Werkman, said: “We are overjoyed to become the Official Betting Partner of the Mercedes Cup tournament. We continue to showcase our support of Tennis around the world and we look forward to being part of such a historic event.”
