Interactive entertainment company Atari has reported that it has signed a licencing agreement with U.S. real estate developer True North Studio and GSD Group for Atari branded hotel construction in eight U.S. cities.
According to the deal, Atari will be entitled to 5% of these hotels’ income and has earned a non-refundable $0.6 m advance at the signing date. In addition, the Atari hotels will feature common areas that will try to follow the latest hospitality trends, with a focus on the video game universe and the Atari brand.
The hotels will also include an esports centre, a facility for Atari games, conference and function facilities, co-working spaces, restaurants, bars, a bakery, a cinema and a gym.
Atari issued a statement which reads: “True North Studio is a truly innovative specialist in commercial real estate development, active in Arizona. The group is deploying its ‘TNS lifestyle’ concept, allying design and food & beverage offers with the latest trends in hospitality, by offering dynamic and immersive experiences.”
Although both the operating budget and the financing plan remain unclear, the first hotel is expected to break ground in Phoenix in 2020, close to the first university campus ‘ Woz U,’ founded in 2017 byApple’s co-founder Steve Wozniak, in Phoenix, AZ.
Many Atari hotel destinations include Austin (Texas), Chicago (Illinois), Denver (Colorado), Las Vegas (Nevada), San Francisco (California), San Jose (California) and Seattle (Washington). Atari retains the right to develop similar operations in the U.S. and the rest of the world in other cities.
