Arena Racing Company (ARC) has announced that although the sport is suspended it will continue to provide financial assistance to greyhound trainers working at its five stadia.
Despite the cessation of greyhound racing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ARC will continue to give £5 per dog a week to Belle Vue, Newcastle, Nottingham, Perry Barr and Sunderland trainers for the two-week period up to and including Monday 27 April from Tuesday 14 April.
The proceeds will go to meet the health needs of greyhounds that can not compete during this period.
This assistance has been in effect for an initial duration of three weeks during which racing has been postponed and will be checked again at the completion of a extended duration of two weeks.
When the funding was first revealed, Rachel Corden, the ARC director of Greyhound Operations said: “These are very challenging times for everyone across the greyhound racing industry.
“The support offered to the trainers at our five stadia will assist them as they work hard to continue to look after all the greyhounds in their care during the three-week period when racing restrictions are in place.”
