888 has reached an agreement with Shamrock Rovers Football Club to become an official sponsor for the 2021 and 2022 seasons, in a deal that the club claims “signals commitment to the local community.”
The company will become the club’s biggest sponsor, with its 888sport logo featuring on the front of players’ jerseys and in the Tallaght Stadium as part of the deal.
888’s Dublin office, which employs 140 people and is located just over eight miles from the side’s 8,000-seater Tallaght Stadium, is credited with helping to drive the sport division’s progress.
Kieran Spellman, VP and head of 888sport said: “We are delighted to announce our sponsorship of Shamrock Rovers. The club enjoyed a fantastic season last year and is back fighting for a place in the Champions League for the first time in a decade.
“As a sizable employer in Dublin, committed to Dublin and to the Irish market, we are very much looking forward to playing our part in supporting our local team.”
New season start
The deal was reached only in time for the start of the new League of Ireland Premier Division on Friday, March 19th, with Shamrock Rovers defending their title at home against St Patrick’s Athletic.
Rovers had a ‘Invincibles’ season last season, going undefeated in 18 games to win the title for the first time since 2011.
The Hoops will compete for a spot in the UEFA Champions League this season, a decade since being the first Irish team to reach the group stages of a major European competition since defeating Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League play-off round.
Shamrock Rovers Football Club chairman Ciarán Medlar commented: “We welcome 888sport on board as our principal partner ahead of this weekend’s Presidents Cup match, before commencing our defence of the league title.
“The team at 888sport share our desire for success and we look forward to working with them to build a strong relationship over the next two seasons.”
