2021-22 Ashes Odds: Australia Tipped To Retain Ashes On Home Soil

Less than two weeks out from the start of the 2021-22 Ashes Series it’s clear to see that England have a huge task on their hands, as most of the cricket betting sites would concur.

Having enjoyed a short period of dominance of the Urn between 2005 and 2013 with four series wins out of five, it is Australia who have asserted their dominance of late having been holders of the Ashes after three of the last four series.

The task is made even greater when you consider the fact that England haven’t beaten Australia on their own turf since 2011, with that also being their only win down under since 1987.

It’s fair to say England don’t fare too well when playing in Australia, having lost nine of the last 10 test matches they have played on their home soil, the other being a draw.

Their last test match win in the Ashes was back in 2011 in Sydney when they beat the Aussies by an innings and 83 runs thanks in large part to Alistair Cook’s legendary 189 innings. That result sealed the second of three consecutive Ashes Series victories for England and few would have predicted that a 10 match drought for a win in Australia would follow over the next decade.

The 2021-22 Series starts in Brisbane on December 8, where Australia won by a comprehensive 10 wickets in 2017. They are currently priced at 4/6 with Bet365 to win the opening test, while England are available at 5/2. The draw is a 5/1 shot.

Both teams have had selection dilemmas with key players coming into the series, with England’s Ben Stokes being included in the travelling party despite personal issues away from the crease.

As for Australia, they have taken a risk and included captain and wicket keeper Tim Paine in their 15-man squad. Paine hasn’t played at all this season due to a neck injury, with his last competitive outing coming back in April. Despite that, Australia are still the heavy favourites to win the series.
